The Library

The Music Library of Greece ‘Lilian Voudouri’ was created by the Friends of Music Society in order to become a resource centre for music and the fine arts, able to support continuous research and multilevel educational programmes.
Unique among its kind in Greece and freely accessible to the public, the Library has been organised and continues to operate with the aim of addressing the needs of a wide range of users. The Library uses all modern information technologies which have been applied to the field of its activities.

Access to the Library and use of its resources and services is free to all registered members at its premises.
New members can register at the Circulation Desk during opening hours.
In addition, the Library encourages everyone who wishes to enjoy special privileges, including the right to check out material, to register as a Friend of the Library. 

 

Library material, which increases steadily every year, focuses on Western art music and Greek music from the Antiquity to the present.
The Library’s collection comprises of more than 150.000 titles. More specifically, there are 89.000 book and score titles, 23.242 pieces of microfilm, 695 periodical titles, 26.000 recordings, and rich audiovisual material. The collection also includes 206 electronic editions and multimedia on various topics, as well as rare editions, photographs, concert programmes, numerous manuscripts, 52 composers’ personal archives, rare collections, and access to online databases.

In order to ensure the smooth operation of the Library, all members have to read and follow its Regulation.

As part of its activities which are aimed at the broader public and at various age groups, the Library organises on a regular basis
events such as educational programmes for children and adults, children’s theatre, concerts, conferences, and lectures. In addition, it hosts at its premises events
organised by other institutions, such as presentations of books and conservatory concerts.
