Rena Papageorgiou: "Wide awake"

Rena Papageorgiou, together with the musical ensemble Grey River & The Smoky Mountain, presents the musical event “Wide Awake”, featuring piano, guitar, mandolin, violin, and two voices.

The concert focuses on freedom of expression as a fundamental value of contemporary culture and offers a highly refined acoustic musical experience.

At the heart of the performance is Rena Papageorgiou, a Greek-American singer, visual artist, composer, and lyricist based in Athens and New York. Her multifaceted artistic work moves between music, visual arts, and language, exploring the deeper psychological dimensions of human existence, freedom of expression, trauma, and transformation.

The musical program is based on original compositions by Rena Papageorgiou and Sarantos Goumakos, drawn from her musical-theatrical work “Wide Awake", which is based on her book of the same title. The program includes musical works with Greek and English lyrics, centered around the themes of domestic violence and human relationships, conveying a message of hope, strength, and resilience.

Through an optimistic yet deeply emotional approach, the performance explores human nature, the process of overcoming adversity, and the possibility of emotional and spiritual growth.

Joining Rena Papageorgiou on stage are Sarantos Goumakos (guitar, vocals), Tasos Gousetis (violin), and Konstantinos Chaligiannis (piano), creating a unique musical experience for the audience.
