Walking in Beauty – Lord Byron Meets The Christmas of Papadiamantis

  • 29

December / 19:00

Description:

A work by the award-winning composer Giorgos Voukanos, with texts and lyrics by Mary Voukanos, which tells the story of the great philhellene poet Lord Byron through music and songs. It follows his journey from England to Greece, a country he loved and supported during its difficult years leading up to its liberation. The narrative is conveyed through his poetic compositions as well as new songs created specifically for the performance. Byron’s love for freedom, the strength of the fighters, and the beauty of our country are intertwined with the poverty and harsh everyday living conditions of the society in Papadiamantis' world, a few years later. Greece continues its journey, trying to survive the wounds of war. The period of Christmas in the years of Kyrios Alexandros (Papadiamantis) and even today, reflects the deep need for love, solidarity, smiles, and a better life. The iconic work "The Christmas of Papadiamantis" by Mary & Giorgos Voukanos, which has been presented with great success and performed by many well-known and beloved artists such as Giannis Vogiatzis, Daki, Anna Synodinos, Giannis Vogli, Vicky Leandros, Kostas Makedonas, and others, returns to the Athens Concert Hall and takes us on a journey into the world of Kyrios Alexandros Papadiamantis during the festive season.
